Eyes to See

Eyes to See

Finding what is close at hand Verse: Psalm 119:18

Answers to our questions and healing for our hurts do not always lie far away. They are frequently close at hand. Our difficulty is that sometimes we look in the wrong place. At other times we are too fretful or preoccupied to see. But sometimes we fail to see because we cannot possibly believe that God would be kind enough to care about us, to provide us with answers, to give us hope and to gently renew us.Nouwen addresses God in this way: You are so close to me if I am but willing to open the eyes you have given me...We thus need eyes to see. And seeing eyes are eyes by faith. Eyes that look beyond the problem. Eyes that look beyond our own unworthiness. Eyes that look with confidence to the God of all grace and mercy. When we care to look in this way, we will often find that some answers already lie close at hand. That the seeds of hope are already present. That some steps can be taken that head us in the right direction. Sometimes we may discover that God has already acted on our behalf. That there is an open door. That there is a way that we can take. Our problem was that we simply failed to see what was already there, for we were too consumed by our difficulties.Source: Dare to Journey with Henri Nouwen by Charles Ringma
